He was the only SON of FIVE children. His parents were of the DANISH - GERMAN and LATVIAN extraction. The family moved to FLORIDA in 1920 where Buddy's FATHER had a DANCING school. Buddy initially went to school to study as a DOCTOR. He later left for NEW YORK in 1928 and tried to perform as a DANCER. His first experience was a as a CHORUS BOY in Ziegfeld's "WHOOPEE" starring EDDIE CANTOR and was later joined by his SISTER. They both began going on VAUDEVILLE tours and eventually took part in the musical revue "FLYING COLORS". Buddy Ebsen decided he wanted to become an ACTOR. He later married RUTH CAMBRIDGE and had TWO DAUGHTERS. In 1935 Buddy and and his sister Vilma went to HOLLYWOOD for their movie debut "BROADWAY MELODY of 1936". Buddy appeared in several movies with several famous ACTRESSES. He was to play the role of the TIN WOODMAN in "THE WIZARD OF OZ" but after inhalating the ALUMINUM dust make-up he became seriously ill and was unable to complete the movie. He continued to do more vaudeville and a few movies for RKO. He later played on stage in the farce "GOODNIGHT LADIES". From 1943 to 1945 Buddy enlisted and served in The United States COAST GUARD as 1st Lieutenant and Executive Officer. In 1945, he divorced and married his second wife NANCY WOLCOTT. He played FRANK in the BROADWAY revival of "SHOWBOAT". He began to become involved with TELEVISION which was relatively new. As he began, he had worked in several WESTERN'S. He had great success as DAVY CROCKETT'S pal GEORGIE in the Walt Disney TV movies in 1955-56. Then he later played a regular role in the TV series "NORTHWEST PASSAGE". In 1962 Buddy Ebsen began to star in the TV series "The BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" as JED CLAMPETT, an offer that turned him into a TV STAR. This story of a hillbilly family that becomes rich and moves to Beverly Hills went down very well with the audience. After some more TV movies and guest roles, Buddy got the title role in the series "BARNABY JONES" in 1973, playing a PRIVATE EYE, who was again very popular. In the mid-eighties he played Matt's uncle ROY in the third season of "MATT HOUSTON". He was an avid SAILOR and also an accomplished ARTIST which flourished later in life. He celebrated his 95th (NINETY – FIFTH) birthday on April 2nd 2003 and passed away peacefully. 1. *BROADWAY MELODY *CHRISTIAN RUDOLPH 27. 2. *ACTRESSES *NINETEEN HUNDRED 28. 3. *TIN WOODMAN *EIGHT 29. 4. *THE WIZARD OF OZ *BELLEVILLE 30. 5. *ALUMINUM *SON 31. 6. *GOODNIGHT LADIES *FIVE 32. 7. *COAST GUARD *DANISH 33. 8. *NANCY WOLCOTT *GERMAN 34. 9. *FRANK *LATVIAN 35. 10. *BROADWAY *FLORIDA 36. 11. *SHOWBOAT *FATHER 37. 12. *TELEVISION *DANCING 38. 13. *WESTERNS *DOCTOR 39. 14. *DAVY CROCKETTS *NEW YORK 40. 15. *GEORGIE *DANCER 41. 16. *NORTHWEST PASSAGE *CHORUS BOY 42. 17. *BEVERLY HILLBILLIES *WHOOPEE 43. 18. *JED CLAMPETT *EDDIE CANTOR 44. 19. *TV STAR *SISTER 45. 20. *BARNABY JONES *VAUDEVILLE 46. 21. *PRIVATE EYE *FLYING COLORS 47. 22. *ROY *ACTOR 48. 23. *MATT HOUSTON *RUTH CAMBRIDGE 49. 24. *SAILOR *TWO DAUGHTERS 50. 25. *ARTIST *HOLLYWOOD 51. 26. *NINETY FIFTH Learning With Puzzles™All Rights Reserved
